I just picked up a client where I may need to be in New Mexico for 2 weeks work in the Spring going forward I would love to hunt out there a 3 or 4 day hunt in between business. What in addition to bear and turkey may be in season March through June time period?
Any guide or outfitter suggestions would be appreciated in advance of 2012 visit.
Thanks
Andrew

You are not going to find much to hunt in March through June. There haven't been spring bear hunts in NM in many years. Turkey season ended yesterday. The deadline to apply for most big game licenses was in April. Depending on where you are going to be, you might get in some flyfishing or high country stump shooting.

Andrew,
Turkey would be about it. Their tags are sold over the counter, but the hunting isn't as good as back east. All of the turkey live in the mountains, and the hills in many areas get crowded with hunters. Also, about half the time, the national forests are closed during turkey season because of the fire hazard. Personally, I wouldn't spend the time and money required for a nonresident NM turkey hunt.

If I could reposition the time of visits what would be a good time for hunting opps. My deer season in Michigan is Oct - Dec.

The archery mule deer season is split 1-15 SEP and 1-15 JAN. Its an easy hunt to draw and is relatively inexpensive compared to elk. Mule deer are usually in rut here during the JAN hunt and thats a great time to go after them. Pick your "management unit" carefully. You'll want to hunt hilly, but not too high this time of year. Too high and you'll hit snow, too low/flat and you won't see many deer. Javelina season is mid JAN thru MAR and is also relatively easy to draw and affordable. Here's a link to the Fish & Game Department.
