Help! Broken Limb Tip!
« on: May 12, 2011, 01:39:00 PM »
Well, I just bought a used Ragim Impala on another forum and was loving how well I shoot it until about 10 minutes ago. I put a brand new flenish twist string on it shot about a hundred arrows and the string broke at the loop! The lower limb tip is completely cracked and worn thru and the top looks like it's not far behind. The tips seemed ok when I got it as far as cracks but did look a little worn. My question is can the tips be replaced for a reasonable price or should I just order new limbs? The limbs look like they are fine, it's just the tips that are bad. If anyone knows someone that can repair it let me know please. Here are some pics of the tips. Thanks.I forgot to add that the string was dacron not fast flight.

I was just looking at it again and it appears that the fiberglass isn't affected. When I pulled on the tip overlay it popped right off! Can I just have new tips glued on?

I have replaced them on older bows when they were missing. 3 Rivers has overlays in their bow building section so just sand/chisel the old off and epoxy on new ones, cut and shape as needed with hand tools.

Doesn't look like it damaged the limbs, just the tips. I agree that Whip can repair that.

You could actually fix that yourself.  It's not too difficult.

That's pretty unusual.  But certainly can be fixed. I'd be happy to help if you like or will talk you through the process if you decide. to DIY.

Hello,

I had exactly the same issue with a Martin X-150.
After having numerous emails ignored by Martin's service staff (I would never, never, ever buy another Martin product again)
I decided to fix it myself.
Bought some pheolic from 3Rivers, rough cut it to shape, ripped the old ones off , sanded and cleaned and glued & clamped them, sanded to shape, used the nock file to make the string grooves and then sanded everything with wet and dry until smooth.
Then a coat of poly-urathane and still going strong 2 years later as my "loaner" bow for friends.
Cheers

May be a dacron string now, but bet there was some fast flite string in it's past.

Whip would make it better than new!
