Anyone interested in backpacking for elk in Colorado?

Hey gang. I'm new to the site and was looking for someone that might be interested in teaming up on a Colorado elk hunt. I did not get drawn for New Mexico so I'm headed to Colorado. Staying mobile by backpacking seems the way to go. All of my hunting buddies like staying in hotels, but thats not me. I don't have a lot of elk hunting experience, but it sure is fun trying to learn. Planning on staying from Aug.25 to Sept.14 or so if it takes that long. If anyone is interested I'll do my best to respond my computer skills are not very good.

Poison-pilot -- loud applause. I'm always interested in backpacking for elk, even at 61 with typical aches and injuries for the age. But I'm already booked this year. Don't hesitate to go alone. Hike and hunt uphill and you'll be able to get your meat out ... and you'd be surprised how many folks you'll encounter (once you return to road or trail) who'll be happy to help you, out of respect for you doing it the old way, the good way, the only way that counts. Aside from the tree stands, the fake scents and scrapes, hunt elk as you would backwoods whitetails (ambushing spring, trails crossings, etc.; spot and stalk, sneaking around) and you'll do as well or better than most. Do not bugle! Again, if you can't find a mate, go it alone, into wilderness or an inventoried roadless area where the throttle-twisters are not. Best luck, dave

Hi ag pilot.Below is a post from another forum that may help you and the other fellow out.  I copied and pasted his post as I wasn't sure of pasting the link from there on here.  Anyway, sounds like you two can help each other out this year.  His e mail is at end of his post. "June, 2007 With the high cost of fuel today, I need to combine expenses with someone on an archery elk hunt in southern Colorado. I could travel with you from my home in Texas, or we can meet in Colorado. I hunt the last two to three weeks of the archery season, buying my tag over the counter. I am an accomplished elk hunter, having hunted elk since 1966 (41 years). I would like to hook up with a new elk hunter or two (young or old, it doesn’t matter), and show him or them the ropes. I am not a licensed guide, but I have a world of experience, with the heart of a teacher, and want to “pass it on”! All I ask is that you are dedicated to the hunt. I am at that stage (age 63) where I need an additional hunter for safety’s sake. My wife is concerned for my welfare. I am in great shape and can hunt all day with only a “power nap” during the middle of the day. I hunt hard, backpacking in for 2-3 days at a time, working out of a spike camp and maybe even spending the night away from camp with the bull I just bedded. I hold out for a true trophy and thoroughly enjoy every minute of it! You will probably kill before I do. I will share with you what I have learned over the years. I will show you some “Honey Holes” and how to hunt them. I can show you some good numbers of elk. I find elk, and then pressure the lead bull hard and hope to catch him in a vulnerable spot. Hunting rutting bull elk is easier if two or three hunters work together. I know how they move in the canyons and ridges, where the water is and, given enough time, I can locate the herds. Over the years, I have learned their habits and have been lucky enough to get into them regularly. This type of hunting is hard work, but, the results are worth it!
