I help to continue a kid's bow giveaway at Cloverdale every year that was begun by ATHA and Dean Torges years ago. It's all done by donations. We have given away hundreds of bows. It's the highlight of my archery year.
Recently I was afforded the opportunity to make some bows for a movie and shared that with a co-worker. He told his 10 year old daughter about it and, since the movie is geared toward that age group, she wanted to start shooting. He had an old bow but no arrows. Yesterday, I gave him 3 of the donated arrows. He came in today and said she spent 2 hours shooting at a cardboard box last night! She's so excited and is pestering her dad about Cloverdale already.
The power of archery on kids is amazing. There is something about it and when I see the look in the eyes of a child shooting, I relive my own joy in the flight of an arrow. It's magical.
Now this isn't my co-worker's daughter but I picture the same look in her eyes.
Take a kid shooting.
