Bear grizzly bows
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:42:00 PM »
I am currently working on a collection of bear bows.
I have four. They are old, and each have their own
age stressed limitations. These are 45 -50 year old
bows. Two are grizzlys which I am really fond of.
I have been contemplating buying a brand new Griz
for hunting and serious target practice.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the Griz and
the super Griz.

I'm not positive but I think the older Grizz came in 56" (maybe in 58" also) with the Super Grizz in 58" and with a different fiberglass laminate (Fascor).

I have Super Grizzly from the mid 70s. I love that bow.

Maybe some Bear experts can provide a more accurate response.

It was basically the same bow out of the same form, they just used fancier woods on the super grizzly.  They should shoot the same.  The super grizzlies came out in the 70's, just before the big move to Gainsville.

I have a 1969 Grizzly that I shoot all the time and I wouldn't trade it for one of the new ones.
The new Grizzlys are the only bow in Bears new line up that does not say Fastflight compatable so can't see where they would be any better than the 40yr. old models!

I really like those old Grizzlies.  My limited knowledge base starts in 1959.

1959 - 1963 are 62"
1964 - 1967 are 58"
1968 - 1970 are 56"
1971 - are 58"

I have never shot a Super Grizzly, and look forward to that opportunity.

I can say that the newer ones I have held have a much higher shelf than the older ones (especially in the 1960's).

Shoot what you enjoy and enjoy what you shoot.

I put hundreds of arrows a week through 50+ year old Grizzlies with zero concern.  If the bow is solid it will out last me I think.

Enjoy those Grizzlies!  You will be very hard pressed to find a quieter bow than a 1959 Grizzly, but there are so many good Grizzlies across the years.

I have a 70's super grizzly and the only difference that I know of they have Fascor limbs. The risers and the limb corewood are impregnated with some type of epoxy mix. Some say it is for better performance and durability and others say it was used so they could build a quality bow with lesser quality raw materials and maintain consistency.
All I know is I like the one I have and it's still one of my best natural shooters and won't be leaving my collection anytime soon.

Another difference, Grizzly is non fast flight...Super Grizzly is fast flight.
