My new bow and arrows
« on: May 18, 2011, 09:23:00 PM »
I was talking to a guy and asked what plant was that growing in his back yard.
It was bamboo and he said it was invasive.
I took three shoots with 4 root on each.
Planted it as soon as I came home.
Did not know Wisconsin could grow bows and arrows.
Now I just need to wait.  :biglaugh:

I didn't know you could grow it there either. But I know they grow it in Korea & it gets cold as heck there. So it should do fine.

Watch it, though. Bamboo can be difficult to control. Some types spread like wildfire. Like the man said, invasive.

Though in this case that may not be a bad thing.   :D

Bad move.  That stuff is bad.  It will spread.  The only way to get rid of it is with a backhoe.  Let your buddy keep it.  Just cut what you need from him:)

I can agree Bambo is a pest!!
I have giant bamboo in my back yard. Some 6" in diameter.. Timber bamboo and even the regular bamboo. Everyone is welcome to fly over here and harvest whatever you like for making bows.. FREE!!!
I have made sheds, chicken coops, dog houses and even a tree house out of it and I can say It's tough stuff!!

Giving bamboo plants away is a dirty trick that some people play on the unsuspecting.  :(

Thanks for the report of how bad it is.
I removed it from the yard and placed it where it can grow wild.

Thanks for saving "me" the head aches.

Bamboo comes in several varieties, some of which aren't all bad.  If you really want to plant bamboo, find a nursery that sells it and be sure you get one of the "clumping" types instead of the spreading ones.
