Western States Rondevous Live
« on: May 28, 2011, 12:50:00 AM »
I am sitting by the fire at the Western States Rondevous in Tygh Valley Oregon.  It is a beautiful clear night.  I will post a running thread as the weekend commences and add pics if I can size them on my phone.

It is sunday morning at WSR and it has been an awesome shoot so far.  I managed to shoot all three corse yesterday. That is between talking to all the old friends and making a bunch of new ones.  The weather has been really mess with sunshine in the mid 60 degrees,  short periods of rain, and some hail here and there.

I am laying here in my sleeping bag listening to the Meadow larks as the sun is rising.  The coyotes  were howling all around camp last night.  The shoot is set in a gorgeous area with rolling hills, with a mix of pines and oak with open meadows.  We have seen deer, porcupine, ground squirrel, turkey, and a ton of other wildlife.  The courses are set in a circle around camp with a lot of uphill and downhill shots.

There are 30 or so vendors here with everything an archer could want.  Dan Toelke is here.  This is the first time I have had had the pleasure of meetin Dan and shooting his bows. His bow are awesome and he is a true gentleman.  I took a whip around the courses and they are smooth on the draw, dead in the hand, and have some serious speed.   He gave me on of his new fuzzy tabs to shoot.  They look crazy and have got to be one of the best tabs I have shot.  My daughter morgan is looking to go up to legal hunting weight and is fluctuating backs nd forth between a Fox recurve and a Whip.
She will be shooting both today to try and make up her mind.

The Traditional Archers of Oregon put on an awesome
Shoot. Saturday they had a distance shoot, a packhorse and mule loading demonstration, and Larry D. Jones gave a slide  presentation about hunting around the world which was great.

There are multiple dun shoots this weekend
, including a money shoot, a running deer shoot, the clanging bells of death shoot, etc......  I will be adding pics when i get home.  Please forgive
The typos I hate texting.

Were sitting around in camp right now relaxing after the
Money Shoot.  Morgan has been floppping back and forth between a Fox Breed recurve and a Toelke Whip as her new hunting bow.  Were going to be taking the breed around the courses later today.  It is warm and sunny. The balloon shoot is about to start.  I will post more later.  I just want to say how the trad community is filled with the best people in the world.  I love how random people walk into my sales area, then end up sitting down and chatting for an hour like they are family.

It was good to put a face with the name Clay. Sunday turned out great. I shot the Toelke bows...may have been a mistake! haha
Also got to pick up the Blacktail from Norm. It is more than I expected! Wow! He is so talented. Pictures later.
Great place for a Rendevous! I saw you were taking pictures so I'll be looking forward to seeing them.
