Which major trad event?
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:11:00 AM »
Hello there, I live in San Francisco, CA. We have small trad gatherings and only west coast vendors usually make it, (no large event close to San Francisco, anyway, the West Coast gathering will be by Portland, OR).
I was wondering which is a good event this summer to go to, try a bunch of LEFTY bows and chat people up (I'd be coming by myself). I'd be flying, so close to a major airport would be nice.
I shoot a TradTech Titan, so that probably keeps me out of the strictly trad events (though I CAN come with my Hill and woodies).
Thanks!

Oh, and if Rod Jenkins was teaching a class attached to it, that's a major plus.
Thanks!

Denton Hill is a major shoot in PA. It's held at a Ski Resort called Ski Denton. I hope to make it this year. I believe it's the biggest shoot of the year. I think the dates are July 23-26. It's not a competition so your gear is up to you. Check out the Forum on Shoots and Events for info.

If you are thinking of doing Denton best find someone to hook up with for a place to stay ASAP. It is an excellent event.

Well, just don't expect a lot of lefty bows to try...there will be some but most bowyers are not going to have more than 1 or 2 most of the time.  IF they are leftys themselves (Don Assenheimer and Leon Stewart come to mind), then they'll have more.  I attend most of the larger events in this part of the country--Denton Hill (ETAR), Cloverdale, Indiana, Comptons also this year.  If bowyers have a lefty or two to try it may not be the model you really want to try. Just one of life's burdens those of us in our "right mind" must endure.   :(   Right handed folks don't realize how good they have it.  For what you want, I would suggest either Denton Hill (at Ski Denton in Pennsyvania), or the Compton rendezvous in Berrien Springs, Michigan.  They seem to draw the most vendors.

Thanks Everyone. And David (fellow lefty) in particular. Do we know the vendors at Compton? I can't find them on their site.
Thanks!

Compton is my personal favorite, but I go to Denton as well.  Both are fantastic events and you will be like a kid in a candy store.  I look forward to these events each year as much as a hunting trip!

Denton is a bit out of the way as far as travel, and I think lodging might be tougher to find - you'd need to call quick.  Compton (Berrien Springs MI) is closer to airports and there is a good assortment of lodging available, although I don't know how booked up they might be.

Be sure to look me up at either one of them!

No lodging has been available at Denton for months.

trad_in_cali,
I am sure there will be bowyers with a few leftys to try at Compton. If not, look me up and you can shoot my lefty. We will have 3 lefty shooters in our group and you are welcome to shoot any bow we have with us.
