Has anyone chrono'd their PCH?
« on: May 31, 2011, 01:41:00 PM »
Hopefully this is the right forum to ask this. If not, just tell me where, thanks.

I know everything is relative, and everyone is going to have different data, but I can at least get an idea based on my own chronograph fooling around with the other bows I have.

Has anyone with a Widow PCH had the opportunity to test their rig on a chronograph? If so, I am very interested in hearing some results for comparison. (especially if you are shooting a 58" 50#@28 1/4" with a 29" 480 grain 2016...   :D )

None of this will change the fact that Widow will be getting my PCH order, just curious to know what I might expect when I do.

Thanks in advance.

Raineman:  People can give you all types of answers, none of them matter. It's not the fastest bow out there, it's not the slowest either. Now for the things that really matter, It has a great grip, points where you look, is very easy to tune, can shoot several different arrows, hits extremely hard and is very easy on the eye, made by some great people, who stand behind everything they sell.  Those are the important things in life.  RW

RW, thanks, all those things were previously considered and agreed they are more "important"...just adding a piece to the puzzle while I save my nickels. As I mentioned in my original post, it will not make a difference in my decision (which is already made), I was just curious. I have a chronograph and play around with a lot of bows and strings and arrows, and it is just something that was bouncing around in my brain.

Thanks all, good info.

Just a FYI.  If you are looking to get the 58 incher have you considered the PSA?  I havent chronoed but according to Stus Calculator the # spine on the PSA is about 6 # stronger (I assume would translate to more speed) than the PCH with all things else equal 72# vs 66#.  If you were going for a  shorter recurve and going to the 56 the PCH is still within your draw 28.25.  The PSA says 56 tops out at 27 which wouldnt work for you according to the the BW info.  But for a longer bow according to Stu's data the PSA may be worth looking at.

Thanks sparty. I think this thread may have been received with some misunderstanding. I did not ask my question to prove anything to myself or anyone else. Just wanted to know what folks were getting with their PCH. Thats all. Thats it. Nothing else. Simple curiosity that has/had no bearing on my decision.

To answer your question, yes...I had considered the PSA and it is off the table. I shot probably 50 different Widows of every kind at Baltimore. If I saw someone with a Widow, I asked to shoot it (and I was not turned down one single time...those Widder folks sure is nice    :goldtooth:  ). I shot 2 very similar PCHX bows, one 56" and one 58". I wanted the 56" to work out for me, and it would, but the 58" felt better for me. A 58" PSA felt the same to me as the 56" PCH, and the PSA is not as light or compact as I prefer.

Not sure what the Stu's calculator stuff means, I'm not real technical.

Now this may be off my topic, but my Widow choice has not been just some random whim that I rushed in to. I have been planning for quite a while now and my "ducks" are pretty much lined up and I am waiting on my bank account to give me the nod. 58" PCH is the decision and while I appreciate everyone's input, I believe the only one who might even have a shot at changing my mind is one of the guys in Nixa.

I hope I don't sound unappreciative of any input and I hope this does not come across that way. I always like to hear Widow owners talk about their bows.

Interesting on the 56 PCH.  I have a woodland camo PSA with 58 inch limbs and 60 inch limbs and was just recently wishing I bought the PCH to have the 56 inch option but our draw is about the same and may feel not so good for me either!  So I will go back to liking what I have!  Hopefully the bank account will be agreeable soon for your purchase! Enjoy it.

I have a RW Mackey's PCHX. It is 58" and 46#@26". I also have a 58" PSA which is also 46#@26" (and a PAX same specs).

I prefer the PCHX but I've taken no objective measurements. I shoot the same arrow out of all 3. My guess is if I closed my eyes I couldn't tell you which bow I just shot.  Of course if I closed my eyes I wouldn't have that fantastic Myrtle in Roy's bow looking at me or the Coco in the PAX!

Some day I'll try some 56 o5 54" limbs for the PCH just to see if I can tell a difference -- such a bow would be a bit easier to manuever in my turkey blind.

huntin_sparty,

I believe the PCH shelf maybe 1/16" less past center than the PSA. Approximately 5# more spine would be required for the PSA.

Yep. the PCH is 1/8 past and the PSA is 3/16th's. Makes a difference.

PCH will be smoother to shoot than the same AMO PSA. That's my experience. The limbs are longer. Don't know (or care) about the speed.
