Lodgepole shafting
« on: June 03, 2011, 04:10:00 PM »
Hello,

Has anyone of you guys tried the lodgepole shafts form 3 rivers ?

I'm willing to go back to wood and I'm looking at either lodgepole or douglas fir.

Thanks,
Phil

Phil, haven't tried the lodgepole. But you really can't go wrong with Surewood's douglas fir shafts. Can't imagine a better shaft!

Chundoo or Lodgepole is fine. I love it. Some of my best shafts are pine. You'll have to use dye though. They don't take stains very well.

I have some lodgepole from a few years ago, not sure if its the same as what 3 rivers carries.  I really love this wood, its tough and straight and makes a top quality arrow.  Its not as oily as poc, so it needs a good finish, but its a top quality shaft.  I hope the new stuff is as good as the old stuff.  I'm also tempted by the German pine offered by Kustom King, its probably just as good.

Thanks guys for the inputs.

Sal, I've thought about the German pine, specially since I'm leaving in France, but the spine is too weak for my shrew (I need 80-85# at least).

Is it cheaper to buy from the USA than the UK for you? As. There is a few places in the UK that sale D For shafts.
Thanks for your time.

as above, pine is a great shaft and chundo or LP. I think hex pine is made of the same pine although I don't like hex pine.

Cromm, it would probably be cheaper to buy from the UK (although it depends on the price of the shafts), but usually the spine is too weak.

Hi,
Well everyone I spoke to said the same thing. If you want heavyweight shafts your best bet is Ash or poplar shafts. Not want you were asking for but that is the answer I got back. Had a quick look on **** and they have both those wood shafts at cheap prices.
Hope it helps....
