first time longbower needs help
« on: June 26, 2007, 07:20:00 AM »
I have not shot traditional since getting back into archery hunting in the eighties.  I shoot a 60lb compound.  I would like to try a longbow but do not want to invest the farm.  I am also aware that if I purchase an inferior product it may be so unenjoyable I would not give the longbow a fair chance.  I shoot a 60lb compund and would shoot a 33inch arrow with a longbow.  I need to be careful due to reoccuring shoulder problems but have conditioned myself to shoot the compound with no problems.  Thank you for any suggestions.

Attend one of the many traditional 3-D shoots and test as many bows as possible.  And when your ready, purchase a similar bow on this sites used bow section. Plenty of good people on here to help you with any questions, so ask with confidence.  RICH

ejwitman there are a lot of good longbows out there for reasonable $ but my suggestion would be to start light sounds like you have a fairly long draw length so 45# at 28" would  be plenty and you should look for a long bow at least 62" in length 64 or 66 would be even better. Martin Bear and Chekmate all make excellent bows but I would check the classifieds on here. In my experience the people on here will treat you right and you won't have to sell the farm to get started good luck and have fun Delin
