New Toelke Lynx Long bow/Recurve w/Pics

Dan recently sent me this new Lynx take-down combination to try with a set of limbs to make a 58" 47 lbs. recurve and a 64" 50 lb. long bow. As I've said in other posts I am a "long bow guy" and were it not for enjoying 3d shoots I probably would not own a recurve. The Lynx concept appealed to me as it allows a 3d shooter with one riser and of course the same grip a possible 4 classes (modern long bow, traditional long bow, modern recurve and traditional recurve) with basically the same bow by shooting wood in the traditional and carbon/aluminum arrows in the modern classes. When the poundage of the limbs as in this set allow shooting the same arrows between bow types you have the added advantage of needing only one set of each arrow type.
As with every Toelke bow I've ever received I spent a bit of time admiring the beautiful woods and craftsmanship, in this case Bocote and Linen Micarta in the riser and beautifully figured and unique high contrast Myrtlewood limb veneers. The overlays are Mora and Bocote. A food scale showed the assembled recurve and long bow weigh an identical 35 ounces, another advantage for a 3d shooter. I shot the long bow limbs first and other than the extra pound of mass weight it shoots very much like my one piece Whips which means great and just a bit quicker. I then assembled and shot the recurve and except for one round at a recent 3d shoot I have not put the long bow limbs back on. This little 58" bow is hands down the single finest recurve I have ever shot! Super smooth-drawing at my 29 “ draw it is dead in the hand stable, by far the most "forgiving", very fast and like all Toelkes even quieter than fast. On the subject of draw length contact Dan to find out what this 58" recurve will accommodate. If I mention it, I will start a war with the long bows for a smooth draw crowd.
I know that the Lynx was in the R&D stage for quite a while and it should be noted that Dan’s son Jared was instrumental in making the final design come together creating what I find to be a jewel of a 3 piece take-down. In closing and to use two worn out phrases that actually apply, the pictures don't do it justice and it really does shoot better than it looks.

Looks like pretty woods. Can we see strung and unstrung, if you have the chance?
Thanks!

Jim, Congrats on your new bow. She is very good looking. Dan and Jared build some awesome bows. I have a Lynx also 62" 56# @ 28"and love shooting her. Thinking on a set of recurve limbs, also. Hope You enjoy.

Jim,
Here are pics of my Lynx. Linen Micarta/Pau Faruo(sp?) riser. 2 sets of limbs, both recurve, both 51# @28", both 58" long. One set juniper veneers over bamboo, one set black glass over bamboo.
Really love the way this shoots.
Sorry for the crappy pics. Yours look a lot nicer Jim.

Marco, sorry to be so late in replying, I have been over at Lake Calcasieu on the southwest LA. coast fishing w/no internet access. The bow is back to Dan but you can see some pictures of assembled Lynx long bows and recurves strung and unstrung on Dan's website
www.montanabows.com,
click on current inventory and I know there are some under Whips and meybe Classic Whips or t.d. recurves, check them and see.

I did not include these chronograph results in the initial post because I did not find them untill this morning and did not want to depend on my memory. The recurve is 47 lbs. @28" and Dan told me it changes 2.2 lbs. per inch so at my 29" draw I am right at 49 lbs. I put a 551 grain Beman 400 MFX Classic through the chronograph six times, five of which recorded 185 f.p.s.and one read 186 f.p.s. That is with a B50 dacron string and a 3rivers dura-glove. As I said in the original post and anyone who has heard Dan's bows much before can attest to, it is quieter than it is fast.
