Remember those Kool Aid Dyed Feathers?? Now Fletched
« on: June 08, 2011, 05:32:00 AM »
I couldn't find my original post so I just decided to start a new one. I got my blaze orange arrow wraps on monday from Onestringer and finally got a chance to fletch up a couple of my Gold Tips last night.
BTW- That was the fastest shipping on arrow wraps that I have ever experienced! Onestringer is the ONLY place I buy arrow wraps from anymore.

I'm really diggin these bright new arrow wraps and there's a certain level of safety involved with using them. Hopefully I won't get shot while carrying a quiver full of these?

Anyway heres some pics and I think even I would have a hard time losing one of these, but I'm sure I can manage to get the job done eventually.

Here's my aluminum footings that I put on them. It's pieces of 2117 aluminum shafting that I cut down to 2" and it adds 25gr. to the tip.

Those feathers & footings look fantastic!

Which 2117 did you use or did you some how clean off the camo from them?

I dont know how he took off the camo but i bet a strip of emery cloth will take it right off. Looks nice cleaned off like that.

Thanks guys!
Yes Eugene and Pops......You can sand the finish right off of aluminum arrow shafts. These were just some end cuts I had saved up and were all mixed brands. Doesn't matter much on weight cause a 2117 is a 2117 no matter what's printed on the outside, but for arguements sake I think they were probably game getters. I just took a piece of left over cedar shaft and tapered it so the 2" piece of aluminum shaft would slide onto it and fit snug enough that it wouldn't slide around. Then I chucked the cedar shaft into my drill press and used it as a mini lathe for sanding the finish off the 2117 aluminum shaft. It doesn't take too long before it starts to come off and I usually start out with 150 grit then work down to 400 grit to put a nice smooth finish on them.

Slide it down over the nock end and super glue it butted up to the back of the insert.
Bam! Aluminum footing.......easy and simple.

BTW- The aluminum footing added 25-26gr. of added weight at the tip. The extra wt. plus my 125gr points/broadheads works perfect on these 35/55 GT's for my bows, they fly like darts!

Those feathers really Kool-Aid dyed?  Is there anything to that process other than the obvious?
