bowyers of the past
« on: June 11, 2011, 08:11:00 PM »
I was shooting my bows when I decided to string up my elk antler riser bow built by Bob Thompson. It's non fast flight and I'm really impressed w/ the performance and most of all quietness.I also have a Fredrick longbow that I'm very fond of as well. The 2 bows aren't the fastest bows I own but they sure have combined qualities that make them quiet, and very easy,   to shoot accurately.

I to have many "old" bows they to are not blazingly fast but they are very stable easy shooting bows. I think so often we get hooked on speed as the end all of bow performance, it is not.

Amen!   I remember a 45# Super Kodiak I could shoot well, back when i could draw that.  it was old so I decided to back it up with a new Predator copy of the Super K, same weight.   It was front loaded for speed and I had to sell it on.   I couldn't draw it!  I keep a couple of oldie but goodies that are actually above my present shooting weight, an older Widow longbow and a Pronghorn.  They're both smooth enough that I can still handle them on good days.   There are also an old Bear Polar target and a Wilson Bros. Widow target on the wall... they're dream bows!

My one special bow is a Hoyt Champ II built in 1954 here is St. Louis by Earl him self. Like said before, it’s not the fastest bow I’ve got but it shoots well for me out to 25 yards. Left hand 66” and 50# @ 28” and it 53# at my draw length.
