Well here is my experience, draw from it what you like...

I shot a bull at 22 yds with a 77# BW longbow and a 695 gr. carbon arrow tipped with a buzz cut stinger (2 main blades and a bleeder). On a 3D target my shot would have been an 8 but it was high.

I must have hit a rib square cause the arrow only penetrated 10 inches or so.

We found very little blood and never found the bull.

We heard him coughing/choking and the blood we found clearly showed a lung hit but with only one hole in him he did not leave enough blood to follow him very far.

To do it over again, I would have been shooting a true 2 blade head with hopes to get in a little deeper.

My guide told me about a hunter he had a few years prior shooting a 53# recurve and got a complete pass through. The bull died within 100 yds. I would guess his arrow had no/minimal contact with bone.

Good luck on your hunt!

I'm going this year with 50 at 29 inches and will be using a STOS.  Not sure exactly how much the arrows will weight, but around 600.

Last year a buddy shot one with 50 at 28 a 2117 and a two blade Zwickey.  He got penetration to the fletches.

I would not be one to pass up the woodsman elite head in one of the nonvented weights. I have only shot whitetail and hogs with it but have seen plenty of moose killed with those mechanical type heads that most compound shooters are using as was said before shot placement is everything
