Finally got the finishing touches on the tune with my Sky Hawk shooting these Gold Tip Trads & now that I know that my broadheads & target points hit the same mark out to 25 yards now the question...

One of Earl Hoyt's Sky Hawks from 1991 when he still ran Sky Archery, 60" 47# @ 27" using 12 strand B50 Flemish, 9/16" nock & 7-3/4" Brace.

Gold Tip Trad 35/55 full length 30.5".
1.5" piece of 2117 = 19gr.
standard insert with extra weight = 31gr.
125gr. Woodsman
Standard nock
5" feathers
Capped & crested.
Total arrow weight = 470gr.

I just ran it through my chronograph to see what I'm producing & sometimes it helps in telling me if I'm shorting my shot somewhere.
Speed 160 FPS.

What do y'all think on taking Deer & Black Bear at no farther out than 25 yards with this gear?

It you can hit a killing spot on a deer or black bear at 25 yards shooting 47# with a 10 GPP (grains per pound) arrow, then it'll kill a deer or black bear at that distance.

If it was me, I'd keep the maximum distance to 20 yards.

Lots of guys will tell you that 470gr. and 160fps is ok but I think it's marginal and you should keep things pretty close.  Close like 15 yards to make sure there's less margin of error on the shot.  I get over 160fps with a 160 gr arrow (50# @ 27").  

Marginal performance means you have to hunt with the idea that you'll only take very high percentage shots. That doesn't happen at 25 yards where if a deer takes 1/2 a step when you release it makes the difference between meat in the freezer or a bad night tracking.
