brace height for a Bighorn

Can someone tell me the brace height range for a Bighorn recurve.I have a 60" bow and I put a string on it from one of my other 60" bows and it braced 9.5".That seems a little high to me.The string measured 56".A string off of my Super K measured 57.5 and braced the Bighorn at 8.5.It shoots pretty good there but I would like to tinker with it and I don't want to untwist the flemish string anymore than it is and in order to get a new string I need to know the proper brace height. Thanks for your help...Ken

I have my 60" BH and it's set at 7 1/2" from the shelf. My bow was built in 1987 and the range was 6 3/4 to 7 3/4" if I remember right.
As Fred said in his book, take th brace height down until the bow vibrates when shot. Then start twisting it up until it stops and
it will be about right.
That worked for me.

I just shot my '93 Grand Slam last night. Its a 60" 65@28. It's set at 7 3/4" I think. I checked it and now can't remember.

Mine like 7 5/8. Years and lbs vary but they are all 60" and they all like that number

Would it be too much trouble for one of you to give me your string length?

54 3/4", it's.B50 and the bow has been unstung about a month so string might gain another 1/4" at the most.
Hope this helps.

I went back and stung by bow to let string settle in and it is 55 5/8". So that's close to your 56" string. My bow is a 1986/7 model with the curved limb beds and Bighorn took their measurements of brace height from the self to the string, not the trought of the grip like a lot of other companies so this will make their brace height measurements look low but you would have to add another inch or so to equal other bow company recommended brace heights.
good luck, I love them old BH.

I just measured mine and it is 8.5 from the deepest part of the grip or 7.5 from the lowest part of the back of the sight window.I hope that makes sense.I've always measured brace height from the deepest part of the grip but you're telling me to measure from the riser,is that correct? If so then my brace height is in the ballpark with the 57.5 string. Thanks for your help....Ken

Bighorn took their measurement from the riser, so for their brace height numbers to work, that's were you have to measure to. Once you have a good brace height that your bow shoots well with you can measure it to any place you like and record for future referance.
