Viper deluxe setup?
« on: June 27, 2007, 06:38:00 PM »
I just bought a Viper Deluxe 55#28" thats my draw. I'm going to put a FF string on it. Some guys say this bow pulls 2-3#more then marked so lets say 58#@28" I'm wanting to shoot 10gpp to 12gpp I'm figureing maybe a 2018 or a 2020 29.5"-30" with a 150gr tip. Or are these going to be to stiff? The 2018 well be around 550gr and the 2020 around 600gr If I go with 12gpp how can I get the arrow weight up another 50to100gr or will I have to shoot some woodies which I would like to do for hunting to. I knoiw this bow isn't the fastes thats why I want to go heavyer to get more momintume.

I have a Viper but it is 45lbs. Never tried alu. arrows but it shoots Gold Tip 3555s and CX Thunderstorms real nice. Shot some of my best 3D scores with it. Good bow.

I had a Viper for a while, it took a very soft spine even with a D-97 string.  I suspect the 2018's and 2020's will be too stiff for your 55 pounder.

SlowBowinMo,

You think even with a 150gr-175gr tip they are going to be to stiff?

I've got the same bow in a 50#er. Mine hits 50# at 29", actually. With your set-up, I'll place my bets on the 2018 max. I cut my 2016's to 30" and a 125 point, draw around 29". They bareshaft well. A 2018 is a tad stiff for me, might be fine on your bow. Plus you have a heavier point.
The older I get, the better I was.
