riser/limb length?

how does different riser and limb length combinations affect perfomance like if you have two 60' takedown recurves and one has a long riser and short limbs and the other has a short riser and long limbs how would these too bows(lets say same draw weight) be difffernt? Thanks

Long riser short limbs is generally faster; short riser long limbs is smoother; everything else being equal.

There are exceptions and grey areas in between for sure. But the man has it right.

Lots depends on the individual bow design...I know big help right?!..sorry.

Try a search on the subject and you'll be able to read facts, opinions, and worse till your eyes dry.

Personally, I feel...here I go again... that the grip, overall length ( finger pinch ), and draw wt are the most important things to worry about. I feel they affect accuracy the most.

I think most would agree a longer limbed bow vs a shorter ( same overall length as you stated ) the longer limbed would most likely be more forgiving.

Since we should be talking hunting bows here..forgiveness is where it's at...

I've shot both combinations and I prefer the short riser with the longer limbs.

Another vote for shorter riser and longer limbs. It makes a smoother combination, and more forgiving. That is the name of the game for me.

Bjorn is right, of course, but the fps difference is likely to be small, likewise with noise.  All other things being equal, shouldn't be a noise difference.

In general the info above is good but today with all the designs and bowyers using power lams and tip wedges, riser length and limb lengths aren't necessarily a good way to guess performance or smoothness on an individual bow.  Its really common to be surprised by how a bow shoots and feels these days.
