Calculator question
« on: June 28, 2011, 11:31:00 AM »
I am trying to setup some arrows that I can shoot in any of my bows. I am shooting recurves and LB's from 59# to 54# I have run the calculator and come up with an arrow that all I have to do is add weight to the front 59# bow shoots 125gr the 54# shoots 200gr point. They range from 12-14GPI and 12-15.7%FOC I have to the best of my knowledge filled out the cal. with all info in every block. Am I thinking correctly that I can do this? Or is this old dog barking up the wrong tree. Arrows in question are Easton FMJ cut 30" with 75gr insert, arrow wraps with 3x5 fletch. I hope I am figuring correctly this will allow me to carry only one set of arrows when traveling with just a few extra points.

If you are shooting recurves and LBs with shelves that are cut at different depths then you may or may not be able to put varied tip weight in these arrows to compensate for the need for more or less flex as the shaft goes through archer's paradox. Would need to know more info. on how the bows are made as far as cut of shelf or at least the makers of these bows. Also the string material and number of strands in each string.

Ok LB's 1 is cut center plus 1/16 for side plate
the other is cut +1/16 with 1/16 side plate for 1/8 total. One bow is a Robertson Purist +1/8 the other is a Toelke Super D +1/16.The recurves are  Acadian Woods cut -3/16 +1/16 tot -1/8 and a Toelke cut -1/8 +1/16 tot -1/16.
LB #1 +1/8
LB#2  +1/16
Rec #1 -1/8
Rec#2   -1/16
these are the numbers I entered in the cal for each bow.

All 4 have 12 strand FF strings.  Thanks for the help snag.

What spine are the arrows, I bet ya I can get as close as any calculator if you give me enough info about bow, your drawlength, actual poundage at your draw etc. Shawn

Sorry, but that 300 spine is way too stiff, try 400 spine cut to 30"s with 100 grain brass insert and 125/145 point, that will get ya darn close. Leave the 400's 31"s and cut back a bit at a time until ya get perfect flight. Shawn

I ran your numbers in the calculator, but not knowing which bow draws which poundage.  But with that I'd agree 300 are too stiff and 400 maybe too weak with much weight up front (over 125-145 with a 59# recurve).  340's may be the answer for both.
I shoot a recurve 50#(16 strand D-97) but at 29.5 draw (aboout 54#) and cut arrows to 30" and I can shoot 400's with standard inserts and 145 points. 175 grains are doable with standard inserts, but so are 125's.
