Fletching Beman MFX Classic arrows....

Hey all...sorry I haven't been around much, it's been a heckuva couple months for me since I joined up.  Hopefully everything is calming down and I can get back to learning from you folks.

I have some Beman MFX classics in 600 spine that I want to fletch with shield cut feathers.  I saw somewhere that the feathers adhere to these arrows better if you use some sort of wrap over the shaft rather than just cleaning the shaft and gluing directly but now I can't find that reference.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Chris, I did these MFX 500's using Fletch Tite and have had no problems. I've been shooting them for about a year now.

wraps are great, but they will stick to those arrows just fine as they already have a full length wrap on them.

Ok...so it sounds like a wrap isn't necessary.  Wish I could remember where I saw they were recommended.  

I fletched mine when I got them and ended up with "gaps" where they didn't adhere perfectly.  They aren't coming off but they don't look very good and I know it's only a matter of time before they DO start coming loose.  I guess I could just strip them down and try again.

For me I use wraps on all my carbon arrows,it makes them so much easier to redo later on.You don't have to use wraps but the woodgrain can gouge easy when you scrap off the old feathers if you have to redo them later.

I just refletched some carbon arrows and had to strip off the old feathers.  Was a true pain to scrape off the old feathers.  No wraps on the arrows.

I usually 0000 steel wool mine and clean with denatured alcohol before fletching. Arrow wraps work really nice too.

I will second the denatured alcohol. When I use that the feathers stick. If I don't they don't.

i dont know what fletching jig you are using, but more than likely your problems are due to not being setup just quite right. it happens all the time, even to me who fletches  hundreds a  year in my shop.

On small diameter shafts I always take a knife and slide down the length of the feather just below the clamp edge and this seams to prevent that gap problem. This is on a bitz jig.

i use fletch tape to fletch my bemans. its less mess and i can fletch a dozen arrows in no time at all and be out in the backyard shooting them instead of waiting for glue to dry. i also get pass through's on my block target , i haven't had a fletch come off yet.

I have had zero problems using a gel type super glue. Currently my favorite is the Gorilla brand. Fast, easy and permanent .

To use wraps or not to use wraps is just your own personal preference from an aesthetic point of view.

X2..using MFX 500''s with and without wrap.
