Anyone use AAE Cavalier Elite tabs?
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:05:00 AM »
I have been using a Neet brand no pinch calf hair tab since I started shooting trad a few years ago. I have already wore out 1 tab and am on my second, and it's about wore out.  I like the looks of the AAE Cavalier Elite tabs with their replacable faces.  Do you guys like them?  What material do you like the best? Hair, cordovan, super leather?  How are they sized?  Is it just the length of the replacable face or the aluminum plate, or both?

If you like a tab, they are hard to beat, and the cordovan face is hard to wear out.  I think both the plate and face are different sizes--at least it looks that way on the Large I have.  You might need to file/sand some sharp edges and screw ends, but that only takes a minute.

I started using he Cavalier tab about 2 months ago because of sore fingers when I use gloves. I bought a medium and a small. The metal and the leather are both differently sized between sizes. Mine are the "leather" and I like them.

I shoot 3-under and of course these are split fingers but I have no problems with the tab. I had to trim the tabs, especially the top of the index finger. I have relatively small hands but the small is almost too small - once in while if I'm not careful the small one won't protect the very ends of my finger upon release of the strinig.

I found the switch from glove to tab effortless as soon as I trimmed the tab.

I have a Cavalier Elite, great tab and the cordovan lasts and stays slick. But also I have been shooting the same Bateman cordovan tab for the last 5 years. If you want a tab that will last get one that is cordovan.I use both tabs depending on which bow I'm shooting.

I've been using one for several years now, hard to beat.

I have the cavalier lite, the cheaper one with plastic palm. It is thick enough to protect my fingers which I like. However, if my release is not clean enough, the hard plastic palm sometimes hits my mouth or face. I suppose that's a good way to tell I'm doing something wrong, but after a few more bad releases it can cause some soreness. Just something I noticed between a tab with a hard palm and one that's soft all around.

I use the cheap one, not metal but a kind of hard plastic and it has improved my release or I least I feel like it, however Im getting callouses on the index finger (shoot split finger)Do you know the possible reason for it? prior to this one I was using a blac widow which has leather protection on the exact spot my finger is getting injured

What size do you need? I have the one below and it is a medium size. Does come with finger spacer.

I just came in from my 3-D range using my Cavalier with a new (to me) Habu. (Yippee!)

The only downside to the Cavalier with the metal back that I can tell is that the metal could scratch the bow.

When I'm pulling arrows from the target this tab gets in the way a bit. If I switch the bow to the tab hand to pull arrows with my stronger  bow hand (I'm RH but shoot LH)the tab and the bow come together.

I like this tab but I'm thinking to try a Widow made for 3-fingers under to see how I like it.

I shoot a cavalier tab. Got tired of the metal palm piece hitting my bow and face. Took sticky velcro[soft side] and covered the metal and now it is soft and does not scratch face or bow. Also does not get in the way when shooting.  Try it. Roy
Maybe it is time to shoot what I have on the rack

I have been shooting with a cavalier tab for about five years .I developed arthritis in my hands the last few years. Using the cavalier I am able to put a rubber layer cut from a tire tube between the cordovan leather and backing leather.  This seems to help with my problem .The point being it is real versatile to revisions. I shoot a medium tab. It is also possible to purchase and replace the leather although I have not needed to do this
Flinthead, that is a great idea thanks for sharing.

I like the cavalier but one that is similar and works better for me is the Angel tab, google them! Shawn
