Depends on what type of snake(pattern)you use and the width of your limbs and the width of the skin. I wouldn't split a snake like a diamondback. You'll lose the look of the diamonds. But you can split a skin like a cottonmouth or copperhead and still have it turn out good. Look at the back of your bow and decide what parts you want to cover with skin and measure them. I covered about 24" on my bottom limb, and 25" on my top limb on a 58" bow. I left the tip overlays and riser overlays exposed b/c that the way I liked how it looked.
You should give it a try. It is very easy and rewarding to do it yourself.
