Broadhead Pro single bevel sharpener
« on: July 08, 2011, 12:07:00 PM »
I have searched and didn't find hardly any comments about the Broadhead Pro single bevel broadhead sharpener.  With so many single bevel broadheads out there now, has anybody tried one of these sharpeners?  I have even checked the websites of the companies that sell them and even they don't list many "reviews" on them.  Much info on sharpening single bevels with files, wheels, etc., but just wondering about this carbide sharpener.  Thanks

SuperK,
The way the” broadhead pro” works  is that a carbide inserts or insert set at a fixed angle removes metal from the broadhead as it is pulled through  the inserts . They will give you a reasonably sharp edge. The key is that they remove metal eventually changing the bevel angle. When investigating this type of sharpener I visited with one of the largest manufacture of these sharpeners in the USA and this is what they told me. They also say that the angle of the carbide inserts varies.
They are handy though and are easily carried in the field so do get used. I have used them myself.
It comes down to how particular you are. I prefer to use a fine diamond stone or strop. This is what I recommend for the TuffHead broadhead. We go to a great expense to acquire a sharp 25 degree bevel and hate to see it altered. An alternate to the carbide type sharpener is the Bevel-Sharp     www.bevelsharp.com
