Leaning towards the stiffer boots.  This week I added a 50# bag of lime to my framepack for my hikes and I could immediately see the need for more support.  I'm going to need two pairs anyhow, so the lion's share of funds will go towards a high end stiffer boot.  Thanks again.

NBK,  Your better off caring water.  When you get soooo tired you think you can't go any further, you dump the water and then start to get in shape.

What Cheezehead city are you from and will you be at the Odd Year Gathering?

NBK...I'm with you on the Danners...I returned mine after trying them in the basement..not a good fit for me at all. I went with Wolverine...one pair of light all Gore-Tex..for warmer weather and a heavier 4 lb leather/gore-tex insulated boot for late November/December hunts here in NY..The light ones offer reasonable support if I lace them tight and I have no complaints so far..good luck

Meindles Perfekt Hiker - I used these on my last elk hunt and was well satisfied with them.  I also have a pair of Asolo- don't know the model. They are lighter and good also.

Meindles would be my first choice.

Bowmania, I'm from Tomahawk (45 min north of Wausau).  I don't get to many shoots as I have 4 little ones ages 7 and under, so "free time" is a precious commodity in our home. Oldest daughter just received her new Maddog pup longbow and we usually try to hit the Rib Mt. trad shoot in August.  Good idea on the water.

I took my new Danner Mountain lights out for a 4 mile break-in walk last night.  Glad I brought some moleskin  :)    After the 2d mile I had a nice blister on the back of my achilles tendon at the top of the boot.  I really like the new half sole insert that Danner includes with these boots.  Very different.  The boots don't feel anything like the imported Danners BTW.

I wanted to tell you all that regardless of whether you like Danner boots I can highly recommend their boot dressing which I bought with my boots and also I tried a $10 pair of their mid weight Merino hunting socks.   First, the dressing really conditions the leather.  It made my well used Asolo's look almost new!  Its supposed to help with the break in process as well.
The Danner socks were sized well--I have size 13 wide feet and the XL size was very nice--too often I buy socks that say they work with size 13 feet and they suck.  These are nice--about the same quality as a couple of mid-weight Smart Wool brand socks that cost considerably more...  We'll see how they stand up to use and washing.  But so far so good.

Kennetrek boots hands down are my hot boot.  Right out of the box I hiked about 35 miles in seven days and performed to the highest standards.  They are a bit pricey but the last boot you will buy for a long period!
