# From Tab To Glove ?

Around what weight do you switch over from tab to glove. Or at all ?

If your talking about bow weight, then use either one, it's a personal thing. The weight of the bow has nothing to do with you useing a tab or glove. Hope this helps.

I'm like Whittler -- don't see a difference in glove or tab as it relates to bow weight. However...I haven't shot any thing over 62 pounds. Some of the guys who shoot really heavy bows could better speak to this. I have been told that the American leathers glove is good for heavy pulling bows though. I use a super archery mitt right now w/ a 55 pound rd long bow and a 58 pound recurve.

I use a tab for all my bows,I use a glove years ago but now prefer a tab.I've used a tab on bows from 45# to 83#.

Personal preference at any weight. Can't shoot tabs w/o sticking my fingers into the string. Prefer soft leather gloves 70#-90#..

I need to get a thicker tab then. I shoot split finger and third finger is sore.

Mike, One VERY common cause for a sore third finger is shooting with a high(er) elbow, causing that third finger to torque the string.

I may very well have the biggest tab and glove collection in this corner of the galaxy. I thought I found the one when I cut the suede back off a Bateman tab, but then I tried the NEET Traditional cordovan glove from 3R and that's it, I'm never ever trying another one.  The XL is very big tho and after trying unsuccessfully to shrink it, had to get the Lg. Perfect.

I wonder tho, would the Bateman full finger cordovan glove be better...

Bob,
I really appreciate you pointing that out. I couldn't figure out why third is sore with callous starting to build. My top two fingers are fine. I have too work on straight back and as Terry Green says , Don't be afraid to cozy into your anchor.

The Black Widow tabs and Bateman tabs are thick (at least to me)

Mike, I switched to a tab about 5 years ago and I can shoot probably more weight with a tab. I know my tabs are thicker with the codovan and backing than any glove. I have shot 90#s with my tabs! I usually shoot 52-56#s by the way! Shawn

Over the years, another common problem I have seen, especially with heavy weight bows, is that people have a tendency to want to pull with their fingers harder thinking they are holding the weight.  Hook you fingers on the string, pull straight back with you arm, wrist, and shoulder/back muscles.  Just let the fingers relax.  I assure you they will stay there.

MJB/...what Bob wrote is true...but you can also try applying more pressure with your index finger. You will actually feel the difference in your ring finger while you are doing it...give it a shot..it helped me...I had a callous on my ring finger like a small rock from shooting till I tried that.

Switching to 3 under can help cure that issue as well.

I shoot a Bateman cordovan tab or a Duraglove for all weights of bows. They are both comfortable and shoot well. I now tend to favor tabs, mainly because they are so easy to deal with when I'm not shooting. Gloves are not as convenient, but I still really like them. If I have to shoot hundreds of arrows in a day, I will pick the glove because of the increased protection for the sides of my fingers.

Gloves like bows can be quite personal.

Took me buying the seventh different glove until finding that switching from tab to glove or vice-a-versa was natural.
