I just started shooting a 48# longbow, at my 31" draw. I decided to shoot some 2216 aluminum shafts (pretty stiff), and ended up with an arrow weight around 725 grains, if I remember right. Yes, that's really heavy, but I must say, my bow is super quiet. (I'll probably end up going to some other shafts someday, but I have several dozen uncut 2216 shafts that I wanted to use up.) The arrow is slow, and thus drops pretty fast. But it shoots accurate for me, and will work just fine for hunting local deer.
