Jack Crockford passes!
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:25:00 AM »
It is with great sadness that I tell you of the passing of Jack Crockford.

I'm not sure how many of you know this man, but he was very important to wildlife around the globe.

Jack was the real father of wildlife restoration in Georgia, and made some outstanding contributions to the methodology used today to preserve and grow endangered and threatened species everywhere.

When Jack started working at the Georgia Game & Fish Commission in 1947 there were less than 3,000 deer known to live in a few small pockets in the state of Georgia. His live capture and restocking of deer are legendary.

Without his efforts, we would not have the outstanding game populations and sport we all cherish so much.

Don't forget his pioneering inventions including the "Cap-Chur" darting gun. This gun and its successors have made all the difference to the study and preservation of many species around the globe!

His love of hunting and tireless dedication to the improvement of wildlife conservation in GA and across the nation are legendary- we all owe him a great debt of gratitude for all his many good works in leaving Georgia wildlife much better managed than he found it, as well as helping wildlife specialists around the globe be more successful in bringing back species from the brink.

Don't forget the turkey restocking. We owe Jack alot for the great hunting we have today in Georgia.  Watched Jack engrave a pistol in his basement, he was good man and very interesting to talk with. he had big racks lying all over the place.

It still amazes me what one person can accomplish through pure will and effort. Thanks for sharing with us. Condolences to all who knew him.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs
