what do you use to stiffen your carbon shaft.I understand you can add weight to the the rear of the shaft to stiffen shaft please give examples .

Could you specify what your complete set up is?

Its alot easier to just reduce point weight normally for carbons.

i bought some of those washers from 3rivers tweak my front but they say you can put them in front of your nock i may try that the alum im shooting might be a littlt weak for the broadhead i want

I would guess that any weight on the front or back of the shaft would act to lessen the spine, not stiffen it.

I am also guessing that the stiffest it could get is with no weight on the ends.

Just my guess though.

I would think it would be easier to just build out the side plate of the bow than stick anything in the back of the shaft.

You can add weight to the rear of the shaft to make it stiffer but there isn't much out there that is commonly available to do that feat.

dink mentioned those caps that 3Rivers offer to strengthen the nock end or point end of a carbon shaft, you can also look for Pin Nock adapters with the nocks they add weight to the rear by comparrison to a standard nock.

It really depends on the ammount of weight you are looking to add to bring your arrow into proper tune, it is simpler though to reduce the point weight to achieve this or if possible reduce the length of the shaft.

In an attempt to tune some GT3555 arrows I had on hand for a different bow, tried some nock adapters and brass screw in weights. The adapters themselves are 20gr.  Didn't work very well for me. The adapters use Bohning Signature nocks. Black Widow carries them and, in the older owners manuals, they recommended using them to tune the Gold Tips.

Forgot to mention that Stu's dynamic arrow spine calculator had the spine on the 28" 3555's increasing by a couple of pounds using just the adapter and nock. that was using stock insert, 125gr point and 3x5" feathers. Overall arrow length was increased by the nock adapter by .5".

I have used in the past the Gold Tip system to add weight to the shaft and fine tune it.You can use the same arrow from a huge bow weight range just addind weight to the point or to the nock end.In my experience if you add (for example)10 grain to the end if you want to mantain the same deflection you need to add 30 grains at the point.So every15/20 grains to the nock end increase your arrow spine.You can really make,in this way, any arrow really stiff.What you need is a nock adapter and the brass weight that you can screw on the back of it.They are available in 5-10-20-50 weight.So you can have a 350 grains arrow that arrives up to 1200.Check on the Black Widow catalog.

Any weoght added to the tail will stiffen the shaft. With out any specs, bow and arrow, it is hard to say if it will work

Depending on how much weight you need, I've found that Easton X-nocks fit perfectly into 50 and 100 grain brass inserts. Just cut or file 1/16" or so off the end of the nock, and add a little hot melt or super glue.

If they are shooting great & grouping for you then why not just get some 125gr. Broadheads?

There are plenty of really good heads that are relatively inexpensive.

It's been my experience that adding 20gr to the rear is about the same as decreasing point weight by as much as 40-50gr.
You can get that much on the nock end by adding 2 coats of Bohnning fletch-lac.
On heavier shafts like a Carbon Express Heritage it may take a little more weight to make a difference.
Be careful if you just reduce point weight, it's easy to go too light with a carbon arrow.

A heavier point will weaken the shaft even more, go the other direction. You might try 100gr. up front and choose a good 100gr. 2-blade broadhead. Magnus makes a nice 100gr. 2-blade with bleeders called a Stinger and that's what I'm going to use. I've killed deer with them before and they definitely get the job done.
My reason for using them is about the same as yours because I used 90gr. brass inserts and the 100gr. point just seemed to tune perfectly.
I could take the brass inserts out and trim some off so I could shoot a heavier broadhead, but at this point I just don't want to mess with what works and have to go through all the fine tuning again. I'm sure there are other 100gr. broadheads out there that will also do the job just fine.

Other than that, it's either cut some off the shaft which I wouldn't recommend cause your already at 29" and the other alternative is to buy new shafts.

A ten inch wrap and a clear over wrap will add about 10 grains to the nock end. Beman vibranocks weigh on average about 19 gr each so there's almost 30 gr that you can add, also a fourth feather wil act to stiffen spine.
 In the past when building some heavy arrows for big things that could hunt me back I turned nock adapters on a lathe to the appropriate weight that I needed and used a Bohning  Classic glue on nock with them. That is getting pretty involved but in some situations if you have the equipment to do it there is no better way to go.

Another thing you can do is foot the shaft on the point end with maybe 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 aluminum. The weight is negligible and it stiffens the arrow a surprising amount. Makes them tougher too.

OK i finished up my tuning.I refletched a couple arrows and put on a rap.I also played with brace ht i got set done zwickeys and fp group together from 10 to 30 yrds but i dont shoot over 20 huntin whitetails!  thanks
