Wood Arrow Help!
«

Can someone please help get me started out in the right direction? I just received my new Blackwidow PL2(40# @ 25.6” my draw) and would like to shoot wood arrows. I have been shooting A bear grizzly with carbon arrows for a few years now and I’m pleased with it. But, it has always been a goal of mine to take a white tail with a longbow and wood arrows. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

First of all you need to decide what type of wood you want to use. there are pros and cons to every shaft material so decide what you want to use and then go from there.

If your bow is actually 40#@25.6" and you draw 25.6" you could use 40#-45# spined wood shafts cut to 27" with 145gr tips. Do you have a tip weight you are wanting to shoot? You can't go wrong with Surewood Shafts. Some sponsors on here sell them. You can also buy a test kit from Surewood that will allow you to try 3 different spine ranges out. If you go that way get the 40#-45#, 45#-50#, and 50#-55#. That way you can try a range of tip weights also.

snag,
I was looking at the Surewood Shafts and have read a lot of good reviews about them. Can I shoot the test kit without sealing them or will that cause a problem?

Given my experience with Widows and wood you need to shoot a wood shaft spined 10-15 lbs heavier. My 67#@28" MA needed 80-85 shafts.
My 54# PL likes 70+ I draw 28.5"
Just my experience since 1994. point wts. ranged from 125 to 160.

Ty in order to fletch a couple you'll have to put a sealer (spray polyurathene?) on them so you can glue the fletching to it. But for bareshafting you could just tip and nock taper the others.
