help on my wifes setup!

Early last year we bought my wife a new bear compound. She shoots it very well at 3d shoots but had limited hunting time. This year she picked up one of my old recurves and has getting better everytime out. Now she's is looking to me for advise on deer season. I kinda threw together this setup when she wanted to shoot. 45# @ 28" recurve she's drawing to 27". 31" excel 500's w/ 145gr. up front. Was thinking a 2bld zwickey. Any setup tweaking ideas or do you guys think the wheels would be better this year? Thanks, Rob

Only She & you can make that call.

If She's confident up to a certain yardage, She'll be fine upto that distance.
The bow & arrow setup (if it's flying OK) is more than good enough.
Any good 2-blade head will work, as would Woodsmans. I'd probably steer clear of a 160 Snuffer.  :D

I think she would be fine with a Snuffer, maybe not 160s as they are wide. I would think a bit more weight up front as well, like 200 plus even at 31"s. Shawn

Shawn is correct...a much higher FOC would improve the arrow's performance dramaticaly.  The point weight I use currently on my lowest poundage hunting set-up is still almost 180 grains. My preferred front weight with my 40-42# bows is actaully right at 225.
You also might discover that the 600 series of carbon arrows are a good choice for your wife's set-up.  If you can get your hands on one or two, bare shaft tune them to slightly weak, fletch them up, and they should fly incredibly well.

After a bow shoot today that consisted of her getting into a nest of turkey ticks, high temps, and waiting 20min. to shoot each target I think she is a little discouraged. I'm going to tweak her setup a bit and see how the next couple of months goes. Either way I'm happy to share the woods with her stick bow or not. Rob

I shoot a 45#&28" and draw 27" as well. 3555's four fletch cut to 29.5", with 100 grain brass and 145 Concordes or Eclipse BH's. Good luck.

My wife shoots a 45# @ 26" DAS ILF bow with Win&Win XQ-1 limbs. She draws 26" and her arrows are Beman or FMJ 500's, cut to 27" with 200 grain Phantoms or Razorcaps up front. She gets two holes in both bear and deer with her set up. Her finished arrow weigh is typically right at 500 grains.
