Question about McAlester hunt
« on: August 01, 2011, 05:32:00 PM »
Our group was drawn for MCAAP this year.  I've already been online and paid the fees ($276) to get the permit, etc.   I got my letter today and it mentioned "....bring your valid current year hunting license......."
I was thinking what I paid for the permit and such would include the hunting license.  I bought a small game, 5-day permit to apply (which is obviously not valid now nor would it be valid to hunt deer anyway).
The question is....Do I now need to buy the $280 "2011 Deer Archery NR"?
I called and was asking the ODWC employee that question and got disconnected.  I cannot get an answer on their phone anymore.  Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I thought someone on here may have an answer for me.

Steve,I'm sure you will have to buy the NR deer archery license.Go to the other site and ask the guys on the Oklahoma forum about this.

When I hunted there several years ago I think the permit you paid for there was all you needed and it was only good for that hunt but it might have changed.

I think here in Oklahoma, you have always had to buy the hunting license also.

I guess I was being impatient.  I received a phone call from the guy I was talking to (his phone had died and he couldn't call me back until he got back to his charger).  He said what Mike said......that the fees I paid online would take care of that hunt, but that hunt only.  I would only need the other license if I wanted to hunt elsewhere in OK.
I appreciate the responses; I guess I should be a bit more patient next time.

Mike, We drew Deer Creek for Oct. 28-30.  I've studied the maps and Google Earth pic's for terrain features and have an area picked out that I want to hunt.
I don't know exactly how everything works as far as picking where you want to hunt, but I hope I get to check that area out.  If someone else ends up there, I'll have a few backup spots in mind.
