I want to try carbon arrows - looking for help
« on: August 06, 2011, 12:17:00 PM »
I am currently using cedars and they are great. Want to try a carbon arrow. Never have used carbon arrows, but I keep seeing them and I have an itch to try them.

Current bow for this season is:

Striker Bow TDL 52# @ 29

Thanks all.

I would suggest a .400 shaft with apx. 250-300gr. on the end. I shoot a 50# recurve with a 29.5" arrow with 300gr. on the front end. Total arrow weight is around 560gr.
I really like the Beman Bowhunter shafts. Inexpensive, and quite tough.

I would buy one of the starter kits  and if you need to cut any of them down cut them from the nock end because once you put the insert in they don’t come out easy......stabow

running the numbers would dictate I shoot the following

8 grs x 52 = 416
10 grs x 52 = 520

avg is 468

somewhere between 460 - 500 would do well I would imagine.

I use Carbon Express Heritage shafts. 150's will work pretty good with average weight around 450-500gr total weight I'm thinking. I like the 250's for a little more weight by adding 100 grain brass insert to the front. The 350's might be too much for 52#'s. I have some 350's that run 740gr. I use for my 60# bow's works awesome. All these shafts have interchangeable parts, that's priceless to me.

The Beman MFX Classics have been working great for me.

If:
Arrow is 30" (1" longer than 29" draw)
Broadhead is 125 grain
3, 5" feathers
9 grain nock
50 grain brass insert (break the nib off the insert that comes with the MFX shaft/arrows)

Bow is 52#@29"
1/8" cut past center
B50 String (not FF)

The Beman MFX Classic in size 400 should work well. Total grain weight of arrow is 506 grains.

If you want to use a 10 strand FF string you can drop to 100 grain broadhead and that should also work well.

gold tip 5575 29.5 with 225 total up front 519gr. total should work cut to center. I usally pick my broadhead and general arrow weight and go backwards from there. So many combinations to choose from.

What length arrow do you shoot. I have an assortment of carbons cut to 29" and some full length. If you can use them, I'll make you a heck of a deal.

I highly recommend the Carbon Express Maxima Hunter 250, with 75 grain brass inserts, 125 grain heads for a 510 grain arrow cut to 30".

They fly like darts and are tough. I shoot them with my Herwaybow xrtd 52# limbs and my 40# limbs, as well as my 50# Centaur.

It took me almost 6 months to find the right combo for great flight.

The CE 150 cut to 30"s will work well for you, sorry but most guys will have you too stiff with a 400 spine, unless like first post you leave them 30-31"s and use at least 275 up front. Try using 175-225 on the CE 150 up front as braceheight and string will have some effect. I bet you are darn close with 50 grain brass insert an aluminum footing of 1.25" and 125 grain point for a total of around 190 grains up front. Shawn
