Would You Like To Host A Compton Shoot?
« on: August 08, 2011, 11:37:00 PM »
The board of directors of Compton Traditional Bowhunters has recently approved a concept plan of offering satellite shoots in various parts of the country.  The proposed shoots are not replacing the traditional Berrien Springs Michigan event.  That venue has become a major part of Compton's identity, and we hope to continue with that for many years to come.

The satellite shoots would compliment our Berrien Springs shoot by offering opportunities to attend a Compton sponsored event in various locations throughout the country.

Initially, we would like to begin with one event and as we learn what works and what doesn't could expand to include additional locations.

Compton is looking to form a partnership with a local club or organization.  The local group would be responsible for handling the logistics of the shoot itself under some agreed upon standard guidelines that uniquely identify it as a Compton sponsored event.

Compton’s role will be to promote the events through advertisements in both our Walk In The Woods magazine as well as the major traditional archery magazines.  We also will promote the events on the Compton website, on Trad Gang, and other traditional archery related discussion forums and websites.

As we grow to include multiple events in various locations, the advertisements will promote the common themes that will be present at each event along with a listing of specific dates and locations.

Examples of what might be found at each Compton event may include things such as:
•Non-competitive Traditional Only shoot with 3D targets
•Adult target and bow tryout range
  •Youth target range
  •On site camping available
  •Vendors
  •Novelty shoots
  •Saturday Afternoon Trade blanket
  •Saturday evening pot luck dinner
  •Saturday evening campfire

As we gain experience with the concept we may add or subtract from the list as needed.  But the general idea would be that when a person attends a Compton Shoot they will find an event geared for the entire family with a common format that promotes the love of traditional archery and bowhunting and  the camaraderie so unique to our sport.

It is our goal to have the first Compton satellite shoot take place in 2012.  We are in the process of identifying a good location for the inaugural event and have developed an application process that will assist us in evaluating possible sites and locations. The application will gather information on things such as the facility and grounds, vendor facilities, parking, and manpower available.

If you are part of a club or organization that would like to be considered for a Compton shoot please contact Joe Lasch at 920-397-0959 or email [email protected].

Compton Traditional Bowhunters has experienced wonderful growth during the early years of our organization.  The time has come to expand our reach and offer events throughout the country so that all traditional archers will have an opportunity to enjoy a true Compton experience.  We hope to see you there!

Joe,

What would the requirements be for a site? My club is 35 Acres with parking for over 100 cars. We could have three wooded courses. We have an indoor range as well with a kitchen. It is small but may be a good place to try it. Facility size is what I am looking for. Also, when in 2012?

Let me know more.

Thanks!

Martin

Fantastic....I hope this can come together. Would be great to go to another venue. Had a great time when I went to Mich., but a closer thing I could go more often! Be nice  to have an east coast, Mich.[central] and west coast, maybe even a south.....but that would be a tremendous amount of work!

Joe, you are indeed a man of action! I am honored to call you friend. Kudos to you and the Compton board to listening and trying something new.

Pennsylvania seems to have quite alot of archery clubs that just might fit the bill. Some of the locations that host PBS Odd Year Gatherings or some of the other shoots might be candidates.

Martin, We haven't established minimum guidelines in order to be considered.  As the concept takes off and grows we hope to learn better what works and what doesn't.  There is an application form that asks a number of specific questions but there are no right or wrong answers - just a way of gathering information to get an overall idea of what a club might be able to offer.

One of the best indicators might be what types of shoots you have held in the past and how many shooters were accomodated there.  Was there room for many more?  Certainly our hope is that by affiliating your shoot with Compton we could help you attract significantly more people that you otherwise might have.

If you would like to see a copy of the application itself just give me an email address to send it to and I will be happy to get it out to you.

One other thing we will be considering is the geographical location of the satellite shoot.  Ideally we would like to have them located some distance from Michigan so that people who otherwise haven't had a chance to attend the summer rendezvous might be able to try one of these events.

While it may take a number of years to fully implement, I can see the possibility of Compton shoots being held all over the country.

Joe,

Please send it to [email protected].

I will bring it up with the board at the club. They have hosted SCA (I think) events in the past. The Club is the Limerick Bowmen. You can find them at  www.limerickbowmen.com

I know that we can attract folks from up and down the East Coast. We are 5 hours from Boston and Up State NY, 3 hours from Baltimore and 4 from DC. Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia are not a stretch.

While I am not a Compton Member, I understand its importance and the roll it plays in the World of Archery. I would like to help if it is a fit.

Thanks!

Martin

Whip, you know Ojibwa would be up for that.  Although, we're pretty close to MI.
