Preference Points and Kids Preparing for the future.
« on: August 14, 2011, 05:29:00 PM »
Does anyone  buy Preference points for their kids?

I am considering buying some in Wyoming.

Do they transfer over when they hit 16? Or do they have to use them when they are under 16?

Chezney is 8. I am considering buying him Preference points for him on hunts I would like to take him on when he is older.

Right now they are normally 10-15 dollars a point.

Anyone have suggestions or thoughts on this?

I don't know anything about the legalities of buying points for youngsters, but if it is legal I would sure encourage you to do it for them.

A quick search of the state(s) regs you are interested in should answer your questions, and provide more reliable information.  When it comes to legal questions it is always best to go directly to the source.  It's just a guess, but I would think that the youth would probably need to be old enough to qualify to buy a hunting license.  What is the minimum age to hunt in WY?

I think that emailing them might be a good idea.

The information on the preference points that I have found online is minimal. It more less just states what they are, how they are used for the lottery and what the cost is.

I have read that it is 12 years old and have to have hunters safety to hunt. But cannot find the minimum age to start buying points.
