How I foot carbons (bombproof arrow)

Thanks.Nice job on the video.Very informative.You said you used a 2117 section of shafting for CE Heritage 150s.Would those also work on a 250 or would another size aluminum shaft be better?

That is neat.  I may have to give that a try.  Any idea what size alum shafts would fit Gold Tip 5575s?  I don't speak the language of the other manufacturers, so I don't know how the CE sizes compare with my Gold Tips.  Course, I can always take a shaft to a shop and try it out to see what works.

Sweeney...I use a 2216 on my 5575's..Before 3 Rivers came out with the carbon collars I used to make a collar out of a 2216 for my stump arrows...now I just use the collars...I've gone whole seasons using the same 2 5575 stump arrows off of a 51 lb Pronghorn longbow

I switchedd to GT Entrada to get a lower GPI so I could front weight more without getting a log for arrow weight.

I'm doing 90% the same, 2117, but 3" section and use hot melt, then 100 gr. brass insert (lip on insert helps hold the over-foot in place too.

Today at a shoot, I missed the gator from way up on the hill and hit the rock dead solid! Sparks flew like crazy. I thought...dead shaft!

Went down and the point was all scourged up, but the shaft was perfect...tapped it, bent it, wrapped it on a stick...but it was solid as before the errant shot!

I'd never heard of the tiny collar, but something like the Easton Uni-Bushing set up I guess in terms of protection.

I used Hot melt (brown variety) and been shooting them for a year w/out any issues, but you surely gave me some new ideas!

I'll be darned.  That chart is pretty neat.  I'll be honest, I hadn't considered footing carbons untill I saw this.  It sounds like it would reduce the incidence of shaft damage from our Ozark rocks and whatnot.  I also kind of like the idea of setting inserts with Gorilla Glue rather than the Quick Stick or Hot Melt that I have been using.  It works fine, but I always wonder just what that heat might be doing to the carbon.  Naturally, I don't worry about on my wood shafts.  Little different process there.

I spent a couple years paranoid about the heat issue... used 5 min epoxy and would heat the field tip to soften and pull inserts.

Would stick in a glass of water...

Got lazy.  Been using hot melt and a big retail archery store nearby uses hot melt for all shafts and sell 1,000s of carbons a year. All hot melt.

they cut and glue. No clean, scoring or nuttin. Backstop is masonite...dangest hard stuff to pull arrows from I can imagine...only once in 2 yrs I was there part time did anyone ever loose a tip and that was some new guy used too little.

I'm shooting some carbons for 3 yrs and no damage, brittleness up front, etc. I like it.
