Damascus Limb Washers
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:38:00 PM »
My new Tall Tines dont need anything to look pretty, but a fellow TG member suggested I send him some cut offs of damascus to play around with. He is planning on making some limb washers. I sliced off some Saturday and made a couple myself just to see what they look like. I will still send you some Lance if you're readin this. I got em ready. Here are the ones I made today. These are just for kicks and are not replacing anything on the TallTines. I thought you guys might want to see what we have in mind.
Sorry for the cell phone photo.

Hess, I would wax them sometimes, sure. They are not going to rust as quick as , say, bare steel. They have the etching, which is an oxidation of itself. The problem with etching, is that the acid is sometimes not entirely neutralized and that will rust big time. I wash it in ammonia when I'm done etching and it stops the acid. Then oil it lightly and check it once in a while.

They are slick!!  Just a thought, how would they look blued?  I would think the blueing would keep down the rusting.

Yes, they can be blued.

The Talltines dont have a washer as such. It's reinforced in that area of the limb, so this is just a little touch of my work on it.
