Bear Custom Kodiak Takedown

Can anyone tell me how these bows shoot. Do they pull smooth and are how is the shelf cut? I'm interested in one.

I have gone through a lot of bows. They are still my favorite as far as recurves. Not sure if it's just the history or what but I shoot my bear takedowns better than anything else.

I have a green stripe, new red strip and a 90's A.

Of course these are one of the most noteworthy recurves in archery lore.  The grips, woods, shelves, and other features are a bit different from model to model.

I've had the original, the Green Stripe, 2011, and the Supreme. I'm probably in the minority here but I prefer the Supreme because the grip is very slim and fits me well. I also prefer the A riser (smaller) than the B or C risers.

I think the 2011 A Riser is a terrific bow but It is a bit thicker from face to back than I like (it is about 5.25" and I prefer under 5"). If this riser had a 4 1/2" throat it would be my favorite of all the Custom K's.

Many will suggest (myself included) that you buy a riser and then get your limbs "after-market" from one of 2-3 custom bowyers out there. I have two sets from Rose Oak Creations -- #1 and #3 limbs.

If you happen to be a lefty and want an original A riser (early 70's), figure on sneaking around a certain fellows house in Italy, during elk or bear season, as I believe he has all of em!  :D

I love all of mine they shoot as good as any bow I have ever shot. I think it is all the guy shooting the bow that makes it a good bow. If it feels good when you shoot it and you like the looks and who could not like a Bear T/D. I also like the history of the bow and all the history of Fred for that matter. You wont go wrong with one and if you dont like it send me a PM Im a sucker for a Bear T/D.

I am also a fan, my go to bow. if you get one and don't like it , they are fairly easy to resale. Your question needs a few specifics as the risers and limbs go back 40 years and have different characteristics throughout.

I have shot and owned a bunch of bows. I like the older Bear Magnesium takedowns as much as any bow I have ever had. One element that I like the most is the ability to select from 3 grip styles, low medium or high. The grip is important to me and with the wood risers, you are restricted in grip.
