Not all Iowa Bucks are Huge
« on: July 03, 2007, 11:42:00 PM »
Okay, I'm not the best Trophy hunter but I would like to see some of you guys Deer Racks that aren't huge. I know not every Buck shot is a record so lets see them. Here's a pic of the last five I have shot in the past six years and I have a great memory of each one of them. I even have great memories of each doe I have taken. Anybody else have pics to share?

Here's the head gear from the buck I was blessed with last year.  I took him with my seconed arrow at 25 yards, double lung.  The arrow in the picture is the arrow I used.  It got bent so I retired it and there it sits.

Here is my entry.  My 2006 buck is from Story County, Iowa and is the largest buck I saw in more than 50 sits on stand last year.

I think the potential of the bucks in my area is compromised by the shear number of deer.  According to the IDNR, I hunt in the most deer dense area of the state........a 2 by 5 mile section of Skunk River bottom that borders the city limits and gets very low hunting pressure even though its totally legal to hunt there.  As such they make 100 extra doe tags available for that area each year and I have done my part taking more than 30 does in the last 6 years........someday maybe I will see a nice buck, but 'till then I will just have fun seeing 10-30 deer every time I get in the stand!

My entry is my avatar.  Good eating and you can tell I'm a meat hunter first.  I'm still looking for the BIG deer that everyone is coming to Ks to hunt (been hunting deer around here for close to 25 years).

ANY deer taken with a bow is a trophy!  No matter how big the rack is of if it even has a rack.  To get close enough to poke an arrow thru a deer is a worthy feat all by itself.  I only have one wall hanger taken with a rifle a couple years ago.  But both deer I have taken with a bow are special.

Mickey,
Show us some more of your room.  Looks pretty cool, especially the arrows on the ceiling.

Any deer shot with traditional methods the hard way is great in my eyes, what I mean by that is finding the patterns and meeting them on there terms, lately I,ve been watching some shows on tv, I see bait piles on the ground or corn down the road, and then have someone try to convince me on what a good job stalking someone did. Sorry but I,ll quit hunting before I do this and I don,t care how big the racks are, I am more impressed with smaller rack hunted the right way. good job guys.
