Two quick questions?
« on: September 03, 2011, 09:00:00 PM »
Getting ready to fletch some arrows 4 fletch, which I've never done. Which works best 90 degree or 75 X 105 degree or are is it just preference. Also have some 4" shield and 4" parabolic. Which will make less noise as these are hunting arrows. Thanks, Don

Many have their own personal preferences.

Parabolic feathers are quieter than shield cut, however there has been no incling of data to substantiate nor suggest that game are spooked by shield cut.

If you don't care maybe do one of each and try them before making up the rest...I like shield cut myself but notice parobolics are somewhat quieter...Now heres a thought you can always trim the end of a shield with scissers to make them parobolic if you don't like them ...

I have always prefered the 90* setting when doing 4 fletch, I actually just did 14 of them up this evening for a friend, and I burned my Motor City Machete banana shape on them.  It really all comes down to your personal preference.  As long as the feathers are not secondaries, they will be fine.  I have found, and regret using in the past, secondary feathers due to the masive amount of noise they make.  I think it is because of them being so soft that causes them to sound like flu flu's in flight.  Just about any fletch out of primary feather is going to suit you well, and for the most part be quiet enough to slip thru a set of lungs before the deer will hear it.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure what the advantages are between 90 and 105. I have fletched alot of arrows but never 4 fletch. I have a Kenny M. design longbow, I made, that likes a low brace so I thought 4 fletch 4 inch would work better. Don

I know parabolic is quieter in flight than shield cut. Don't know if deer or any other animals can tell the difference.

The 105's lay flatter to the window than the 90's other wise I have never seen any diference
