Benny me `ol mate. Good to see you getting out with stick and string my northen friend.

I have always enjoyed the view of a longbow at full draw... Just something special about it.

Cheers digger, looking forward to the PCH tests!

I don't think the Hill longbows take any more practice to be proficient than a recurve or any other bow, if you have a well matched set of arrows both should be shot roughly the same as far as accuracy. My problem is my shoulders cannot hold up to a Hill bow due to the hand shock but they are easy and fun too shoot! Shawn

Shawn,

I agree in some with your post, but it depends on the person also. I cannot shoot a straight end long bow worth a hoot no matter how much I practice. Take down or modern reflex/deflex longbow, no problem, same weight and arrows as my Quests or Silver tip recurve and I can interchange at will but I just cannot shoot a straight end bow.

Thanks for sharing Ben.  Nice pics!  Beautiful old Bear.

It's always a good idea to take a least two bows with you during an extended practice session so you don't tire the bows out.  Sometimes I'll take 4 or 5 with me if it's going to be a long afternoon.

Dave,
As a relative newbie, I am intrigued by your comment. I know it would depend on the bow type, materials and the bowyer's skill but on average how many shots before a bow begins to loose performance?
Thanks.

Dodger, methinks Dave to be just kidding. Your bow can handle more shots than you can!

Yep, my Strunk is old and heavy (draw weight that is) and it is certainly able to keep shooting after its wore me out    :D
Nice comparison Ben. Looks like lots of fun. I hate when my buddy Moose watches me shoot though. He knows just when I'm about to release and just at that second, barks like mad! Guess he's tryin to help me work through distractions. Little bugger...
