« on: September 06, 2011, 01:16:00 PM »
my brother ordered his first custom bow awhile back and is still waiting to get it he was told it would be done in 6 months so after the six months he was told that he was glueing it up and it would be done in 2 weeks that was at the beginning of june so at the beginning of august my brother called him again, and again he was told that he would be glueing it up that weekend. This is a well known bowyer nd im not saying any names but now we are 18 days away from deer season and my brother has no bow still What would you do?

I had the same thing with a well known boyer told me 3 weeks when I ordered.  Then when I called at 4 weeks, got a close to being done and hoping to get to his film dip guy next week.  So I call 2 weeks later, and no excuse (dog ate them, got chicken pox, etc..) should have them done this week, hoping to get to film dip guy next week!  Deja Vu!  Ended up being 3 months for some ILF limbs for his pricey ILF riser that I was told 3 weeks.  The experience has made me dislike the bow even though I shoot it well.  Havent got the dislike meter to sell it yet though!
Thats is frustrating!!! Good luck.  Better to under promise and over deliver in my opinion, even if you lose some business!

You dont want to force the boyer into hurrying and sending along a turd, so I would get a used one here or borrow one for the season then not buy anything from that boyer again and tell your friends about your dealings!
More bows than I should have!

I would be asking for a refund and purchasing one from the classifieds. If he is a well known bowyer then he will have no trouble selling it around Christmas when he finally gets it done.

Sounds to me like your bowyer should have called you when he couldn't meet the deadline(s) he told you about. I understand when things come up that keep people away from their commitments. $#%&! happens to us all. But to tell your bro that he was gonna be gluing it up this or that weekend and then saying it would be this coming weekend when you called and still no bow or at least a phone call, I call that bad business. Communication through contact goes a long way in avoiding dissatisfied customers.

What would I do? I would consider canceling the order and finding another bow.

Get your money back, if his quality of work is like his customer service the bows a piece of crap and not worth it. and if the bowyer rushes it due to being late, it opens it up for mistakes.JMHO

And remind the bowyer that an honest answer is best for everyone. Crap happens, we all deal with it. But there is no excuse for stringing anyone along. A phone call is all it takes.
Hopefully he mans up. If you get a bum deal in the end, I'm sure you'll get plenty of help here to back you up.
