BW arrow spine help
« on: July 05, 2007, 10:26:00 PM »
I'm making some arrows for a Black Widow shooting friend.  These will be his first woods.  Specs are: 57 lb @ 27.5";  28.5" arrow; 125 gr head; finished arrow wt around 600 gr.  His bow is a PSA or PMA.  He is currently shooting CE Terminator 6075 carbons, but didn't know their length.    :help:   I'm hoping some of you Widow shooters can give me a starting point for his wood shaft spine needs.  I'm thinking 70-80 but that is a SWAG for me.  Thanks, Rick

Rick:
I'm not familiar with the various models of BW, however if the bow is the recurve model, go 20# over spine, so I would suggest 75/79 spine, you can go higher with out ill effect.

I use to shoot a 52# BW and I had to shoot woodies spined at 65 something about a BW that you have to go a good bit heavyer.

that is real close to my specs out of my onepiece pga recurve. i am shooting 60@27 with a 28"BOP cedar, 125 gr head, i am using a 80-85 spine but I normally take a little heavier due to a poor release.. probably 75-80.. as aromkr said...

Add 15#s to the weight of the bow at his draw and than for every inch of arrow past 28"s add 5#s. In this case add about 3#s. This would give ya 18# plus 57#s and that would mean he needs 75# spine. I would try to get a dozen that spines right around 75-78#s. Shawn

Thanks guys!    :notworthy:    I have a good selection of 75-80's.  I'll make up a few in different spines and lengths for him to try and shoot thru paper.  We'll see what works best and go from there.
