Fletching tapered shafts
«

I shot some tapered cedar a few weeks ago at a shoot and really, REALLY, liked them. Quiet, heavy and shot as good as any other material I have used. I am considering ordering some but have a question about fletching.
Does the taper require any special attention when fletching? I use a Jojan with left helical clamps and am concerned about aligning the feathers properly on the tapered shaft and getting good contact.

Nope. Will need to adjust for the somewhat thinner/thinning shaft, but it's an easy adjustment.

Not really any adjustment needed on the JJ. If you're using feathers with thin quilled bases then take your thumbnail and run it between the clamp and the feather base to pull the feather out of the clamp about 1/16th....everything should be fine. These were fletched in my JJ two nights ago with no other attention than that:

I'm using the Archery Dynamics Hammer Heads and I didn't need to make any adjustments to my Bear Paw arrow fletcher set up for Trad Only Carbons.

Just as with any fletching chore...make sure there is good contact between the quill and shaft and just let the glue set.
