What ever you use, watch the chemical content of the product, and don't use silicone.

I use string wax made from bees wax.

I just spray em with silicone spray...same thing i use on my gun....doesnt attract dirt

Been using a black Sharpie followed by a thin coat of Vaseline applied with a Q-Tip for years.
