HELP with arrows
« on: September 09, 2011, 11:07:00 AM »
I've only been shoot'n about a year are so and I've realy had a hard time with tuning a bow.I've got 3 bows martin hunter 53pounds savannah long bow 47pounds bear kmag 55pounds.ARROWS trad only 600 125 grain up front total weight367 grains beman 500 125 grain up front total weight 378grains.My draw is 27 inchs, arrows 28 5/8.I shot the 500s out of the hunter 6oos out of the savannah and kmag,I know the 600s shouldn't shoot out of the kmag but they did.I shoot threw paper like a bullet.THEN I WAS TOLD THE ARROWS WERE TO LITE AND COULD DAMAGE MY BOWS.I put weight tubes in 5gpi and my shoot'n went down hill.arrows weight 523 grains now.how much total arrow weight should you have for the poundage of the bow.I tried 145 to 175 field tips and that didn't help.

I like to go with the rule of "10-12 grains per pound". my bows just shoot better with heavier arrows (and they're better for hunting) you just have to get used to the new weight of your arrows, it takes time, just hang in there and keep practicing!

Most bowyers say a minimum of 8 grains per pound. Most people hunt with 9-10 GPP.I've used up to 14GPP.Are your arrows no longer tuned since you added the weights?

I shoot a Tomahawk diamond series 55 @ 28. I use the 340 spine Trad only shafts with a 100 grain brass insert and 175 grain point cut to 30". I get perfect flight bareshaft and fletched. I believe this set-up or something close to it would work out great for your bows except the savannah for that bow I would go with a 400 spine loaded up front with weight to get the spine down enough. I like to use arrows that are just a tad over 11 GPP

If that's the case, you haven't added enough point weight yet.
