Traditional Influence, Trad Gang Style (pic's)
« on: July 08, 2007, 10:28:00 AM »
What happens when a young enthusiastic bowhunter is introduced to the Trad Gang?

You probably know, or you would not be reading this!

I wanted everyone here to see what a great effect that the Trad Gang site has on our youth. This is how we help carry on the trad sport of archery. Every time you Trad Gang members post a Build-Along or turn someone on to the Trad Gang site, you are helping do your part to pass down the traditioanl ways of archery and traditional bowhunting. Your efforts are appreciated and I encourage you to continue what you do! Every post and every bit of information, no matter how trivial is a contribution to assist in keeping our wonderful sport alive and well.

Thanks,,, to each and every member here at Trad gang for doing your part!

Before Trad gang;
Compound bow with all the latest store bought tackle and fiberglass  fishing arrow

Same enthusiastic bowhunter, six months after his father introduced him to the Trad Gang site;
Selfbow, homemade wood "nutter" arrows, cattail quiver

When a 6 year old prefers and can feel the special effects traditional archery has on a person,,, you know it is a special sport.

The wife and I were suprised last when we met Bowhunterksb32 and his son Easton for our second frog hunt together last night. It seems, Easton and his Dad had been influenced by my cattail quiver that I had posted here on the Trad Gang. So, they went and made Easton one. It was very functional as Easten used it during our hunt and it did the job in assisting the archer.

We had so much fun, we lost count on how many frogs we had gotten. Maybe Scott will chime in, as I am sure he counted them while getting them ready for the fry pan. Some were small but they will be eaten by Easton, he likes them frog legs!

Here are a few pics from the hunt last night

Getting into the hunting grounds, sweet little private pond

The hunters, brought together by the Trad gang

Look at the form on this young man. He hardly ever missed one. Can't say that for me or his father.

Legs for the pan

Easton was the point man and was ever eager to get another one...

I think the Trad Gang has created a hunting monster.And hopefully shown the right trail to greater hunting and shooting satisfaction.

We had a great time last night. After our first frogging trip with joe all easton talked about while my wife was helping him get cleaned up and ready for be was joe this and joe that. When I came in from skinning frogs last night she said all easton talked about Joe's wife cheryl. She said the whole time he was getting cleaned up it was cheryl this and cheryl htat.lol

Joe,thanks again for osage, the river cane ,and the turkey feathers.  After reading joes homemade gear thread  I wanted to make a cattail quiver. Easton and i went and gathered some cattail  and willow shoot last week.

Easton helping take the catail reeds apart

Easton using the reeds to pretend to be a big buck

He wante to keep the end of the cattials. said he was going to make something.

the result was this home made machine gun.lol

After 3 tries we were finally able to get an usable quiver. It doesn't look like much but he was proud of it and it's held togehter better than i thought it would. Tradgang is a gret site and  I used differant tips from several differant buildalongs and  to make the quiver.

I learned alot and in a couple more tries hope to have a quiver i can uise for hunting.My first attempt at bending the willow shoots failed because i thought I could subistute pam cooking spray for oil and it scorhced the shoot and it broke.lol

That is really cool. Here in NY a kid can't hunt a thing till they are 12. by that time a lot are lost to other interests. I still take my son with me whenever i can, he was started on trad gear and shows no interest in any other kind of archery gear. That young man in your pics looks like he is well on his way to a great way of life. Way to go there Joe.   :thumbsup:
