Asbell Pullovers
« on: October 02, 2011, 11:18:00 AM »
Thinking about ordering one of the asbell pullovers in the Montana Magic Plaid. Just wanted some thoughts/opinions before ordering. Also wondering do they all come with hoods or can you specify with or without, also do you guys prefer them with hoods. I was also wondering how large the sizes are, as I do not like real baggy clothing because it is something your string can catch but I do not want it too tight so that I can layer some underneath. I am about 6' 185 lbs, would a Large or XL be appropriate. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I just got a hoodless pullover (not a fan of hoods) in the fall brown.  I am your exact height and weight and the large will be fine.  Enough room to put some layers underneath without being baggy.  I really like it, though it has not been cold enough to wear it much.  Looking forward to using it next week on my moose hunt.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Montana Magic is a nice autumn plaid.  IMO, I think you'd be better off with the XL for layering.  Mention your height and weight to Teresa when ordering... she has a wealth of experience making these for a long time now.

You can specify with or without hoods.  I'm not normally a hood fan, but I really like the hoods she puts on her pullovers... they're really big, so it you have it draped over your head, you still get a lot of peripheral vision... also, they fit over a packer hat or fedora.

I just got notice from UPS saying mine has been received. Tracking number didn't come up with anything though. Hope it comes in this week, I've never recieved anything by UPS not sure how much longer it will take. I have  a Montana Magic coming.

I'm 5' 10" 185......large is OK with something light under it. I have an XL that I can put layers on under it. LOL....I think you need 2!!   :wavey:

The Montana Magic pattern is great!  I ordered one few weeks back.  I'm a little smaller than you(5'9"-165) and I ordered a medium.  Plenty of room through the torso with a fleece jacket underneath,  the upper arms seem a little snug though.  Don't wait too long to order.....Teresa said she was running low on that pattern.   :D

I'd go with the XL. They seem to run a little tight. I've got the brown and green shirts wo/hood, gray vest w/hood and the Macinaw.
Quality products, you'll love them!

I'm 5'9" 185 and have a large. There's just enough room to wear some long johns and light fleece underneath when it gets cold. I called and talked to Teresa before ordering mine. I would call her and tell her what body type you have and how you would like it to fit. She's real friendly and a ton of help. I think she will even customize. By the way, it was cold enough to wear it this Saturday for the first time in the woods and it's now my favorite hunting shirt..

I'm a little larger at 6'3 & 200#.  XL is perfect with plenty of room for me.  Depending on how much you layer you would probably be fine with a large, but as mentioned, talk to Teresa.

I really like the hood.  I don't wear it most of the time, but at times it is nice to be able to pull it up.  Even with it down, I like the extra material to bunch up around my neck - it seems to keep the wind off better.

I have the Montana Magic in XL and I wear a 48" jacket. As a side note yesterday was 40F raining and high winds all day. With the Asbell pullover and the deep warm pockets I was warm and dry all day. The plaid works so well I had does, fawns and turkey all within 10 yards of me all day. They were in on me so close the tag is still unfilled since I couldn't draw without getting busted. Needless to say I love mine!

I'm 6' 215#. I went with an XL because I wanted a roomy chest/shoulder area. I had to put it in the dryer to shrink it a bit.

I think a L would fit you well.

For what it's worth, I wore it this morning with a wool base layer and a fleece vest underneath it. I have the Northern Lights pattern.

Oh +1 on the hood also! Wouldn't want one without it.

It all depends on how you are going to wear it.  I use three shirt sizes for layering.

light weight turtleneck...merino wool
XL Tall wool shirt....(Woolrich)
2XL TALL wool shirt...(KOM-lightweight)
3XL TALL Pullover...(KOM-heavy weight)

I wear my XL Asbell pullovers with the turtlenecks and/or the XL Tall wool shirt when I'm stumping, hiking, moving stands etc.

I always buy tall's even though they are to long because I hate it when I lift my arms up and the sleeves pull up...especially when it is cold.

I would find a shirt that fits you well and take the measurements...shoulder to shoulder, shoulder to cuff, neck to hem, pit to pit...and relay that data to Theresa.

guys I normally dont layer too much here in Ohio and if its really cold I have a Cabelas berber fleece jacket that I can wear. I was hoping the pullover would be a good shirt to wear here during the Autumn months of late October through November. The most I would be looking to wear under my pullover would be a long johns shirt and my H.S. tek 4 turtle neck.
