Hunting with my best mate ... with pics ...
« on: October 04, 2011, 09:09:00 PM »
I posted some of these on the uber Hill thread but thought I'd share with the rest of you ...
He is no great hunting dog but a great companion afield and spends much time with me in camp and around my horses ... he also loves to "retrieve " arrows ..... But he tries and tries .

those little rascally rabbits you see in the distance ... there are thousands of them at my place ... a great hunting challenge to be sure !

And hunting small game with a long bow and dog is about as much fun as a fella can have ...
His is a bit handier outdoors than his 'brother' a 92kg St Bernard ...

He gets all excited when he see the quiver come out of the car and bow get strung ... he knows its rabbit time
And this summer we'll be out and into 'em !

Great stuff Ben! Super dog there what a beaut!

Tess goes nuts when I touch my bow. Her head wrinkles begging for the shot. Here she's asking for water after fetching a few.

You're right. My 8 yr. old black lab makes every step I make when I'm retreiving arrows from the target  both ways. I've never lost an arrow when he's with me stumping or backyard shooting. He is a genuine arrow finding machine. Best duck  dog and dove dog I've ever owned also. If that's not enough he has trailed up four deer I couldn't find on my own. Still waiting on him to find a shed though.

Looks like a great time, Ben. I don't let my dogs retrieve the arrows anymore. I can't seem to get them not to crunch them. Keep it up.

Oh the drool ... the mashed feathers , the chewed and frayed nocks ...
The look of a job well done on his face as he drops them at my feet ?
Priceless .

Retrieve?
My dog is allergic to that. I still like her better than I do most people.

Great stuff Ben!

Its been alot of education but now our dog shows the arrows by sratching where they are and doesnt chew on them anymore.
Never lost an arrow while hes with me.

And Killy i hear you, too.

Good stuff folks! Great pix Ben, Killy, Samuensch. Bolong, Pat, & others.., like to see those mutts. How about a few pix?

BTW, English Springer Spaniels are known for their soft mouths, retrieving, & dropping game at your feet. Tess missed those classes. She finds everything, then game on getting it back.
