I shoot Douglas Fir, Sitka Spruce and Cedar. I own and use a woodchuck but the inexpensive "pencil sharpener" use untill dull and discard type taper tool from 3rivers is pretty darned good and if all I shot was Cedar it's all I would own.

I use a pencil sharpener type called the accurate taper tool made by the whiffen co. I have had it for a long time and it works well enough. my arrows spin test well if I do my part.
God Bless

I have a tru-center and all 3 sizes of the Bear Paw. Biggest problem with the Tru-Center is the blade. It's just not sharp from the factory. I use the Bear Paws the most because they work, but I also have a bench sander if I need to go that route.

i use the bear paw deluxe w/drill adapter the most, but also have a disc sander adapter i made for both nock and point tapers. for the most part, they're all good. need to be careful with any "pencil sharpener" tapering tool that the fit of the shaft into the tool is reasonably snug and not sloppy else the taper will be off center.

Rob speaks to my experience with the pencil sharpener types. Then there's the hand cramps if doing a couple dozen arrows. Can't beat the price though.
I have used a disk sander setup exclusively for several years. Much more consistent results. I definitely recommend a sander setup when using Reparrows. Consistent concentricity.

Tru-Center here; works fine if you keep the blade sharp.
